Press Release: Country Roads Community Health Centre sees improvements in Good Food Box program

August 2024

Changes will include an increase in vegetables and fruit plus an updated ordering process

Do you want to incorporate more veggies and fruits into your diet? Are you interested in cutting costs on your produce? Country Roads Community Health Centre offers a fantastic solution - the Good Food Box. This program allows anyone and everyone to take advantage of discounted bulk prices and receive fresh produce at wholesale rates once a month.

Since 2004, the Good Food Box program has been supplying residents in the North Leeds area with fresh fruits and vegetables. It's a non-profit initiative that operates on a community-based model, with dedicated volunteers, as well as the support of a Community Health Worker and a Registered Dietitian.

For the last twenty years, Country Roads Community Health Centre has been able to maintain the costs associated with the Good Food Box program. As of now, the available options will include additional fruits and vegetables. The options will include a $20 large box, a $15 small box, a $7.50 fruit bag, and a $7.50 veggie bag.

You can enroll in the program at any time, and there's no obligation to reorder. To participate, simply place your order and make the payment by the 7th of each month at https://www.crchc.on.ca/goodfoodbox

Cash and E-transfer payments will no longer be accepted as all orders and payments will be placed through https://www.crchc.on.ca/goodfoodbox. There may be barriers for some in accessing technology to place an order and paying online. In this case, we would work with the Host Site Coordinator and you to assist.

The contents of the boxes vary each month and depend on what's in season. We source our fresh produce in large quantities from a wholesale distributor and, whenever possible, local farmers. The savings from bulk purchasing are directly passed on to program participants. Additionally, every order comes with a copy of "The Good Food News," a newsletter packed with nutrition tips and recipes.

Pick-up day is always the third Tuesday of the month, and you can choose the most convenient location for you. We have pick-up spots in Athens, Delta, Elgin, Lombardy, Morton, Newboro, Portland, Seeley’s Bay, and Westport. The program takes a break for the month of August. Don't forget to bring a reusable bag or box to collect your order.
