Information about Board Member Recruitment

The Board of Directors for Country Roads Community Health Centre (CRCHC) is currently recruiting to fill vacancies for Board of Director positions. CRCHC is a community-based primary care organization with a vision of Healthy People in Healthy Rural Communities. CRCHC is seeking strategic, experienced, engaged, and talented members of our communities who understand the role of a Director to join us in the pursuit of this vision by participating as a voluntary member on our Board of Directors.

Established in 1988, CRCHC operates sites in Portland, Westport, and Elgin. Comprehensive health care services are provided to 5,500 clients by 40 staff as one of 79 CHC’s that are members of Ontario’s Alliance for Healthier Communities. “Alliance members serve diverse communities across the province, and they are rooted in the communities they serve. They share a commitment to advancing health equity through the delivery of comprehensive primary health care.” Learn more about the Alliance at https://www.allianceon.org/

The centre is guided by a “governance board.” Non-profit governance is defined as the process of providing strategic leadership to a non-profit organization. It entails the functions of setting policy, making policy and strategy decisions, overseeing, and monitoring organizational performance and ensuring overall accountability. The board is legally responsible for making sure the organization remains true to its mission, safeguards its assets, and operates in the public interest.

Policy is set out in the Strategic Plan and numerous supporting policies which can be viewed on the Country Roads Community Health Centre website. The organization undergoes regular performance reviews through the accreditation process and is a member of the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Ontario Health Team.

Country Roads Community Health Centre strives for Board membership that represents the community it serves, especially voices that can help articulate the needs of those marginalized members who are overlooked such as those with mental health issues, youth, 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, isolated seniors, and other minority groups. CRCHC is not just a medical centre; it is a health centre that embraces social determinants of health and disease prevention as core values. Programs are designed to encourage healthy habits from clients’ early years through to senior support services.

Board members are volunteers, have a variety of backgrounds and live in all parts of the municipalities. The ability to understand the persepctives and health needs of the marginalized in our service area is a key requirement for new Board Members. If you are interested in joining the current Board and working as a team to help guide Country Roads Community Health Centre in fulfilling its mandate, we would like to hear from you. A summary of your background and interest in the role will be very helpful for the board to have further discussions.
